Kodalikaruppur block prints
A labor of love, this project brought together skilled artisans and block printers, to recreate a Kodali Karuppur saree. Months of collaboration resulted in an exquisite piece, block-printed using specially crafted wood blocks based on original designs
The saree was bleached with cow dung paste, hand-blockprinted on the pallu and dyed with rich natural dyes. The color palette featured alum paste for red, a mixture of iron filings, salt water, and jaggery for black, and a combination of both for an earthy maroon.
The motifs echoed the original's nuanced design vocabulary, using geometric and linear patterns, vines, stars, veldarri, and the thazhambu or screw pine flower design.
